Policy and regulatory bottlenecks hinder the development of aquaculture by smallholder fish farmers and discourage investment by other value chain actors. One of the key functions of the Association is to ensure that the policies and legislations put in place favour the development of the fish farming industry in Kenya. There is still a lot that needs to be done to create a better enabling environment for for fish farming in Kenya. AAK together with other stakeholders within the fish value chain will work together to formulate and implement policy where it is non-existent.
Capacity building and sensitization of member on; Group operations and management, Aqua-business skill, Fish farm management, Value addition, Marketing of aquaculture product.
AAK must continually build the capacity of fish farmers as well as create awareness on aquaculture development issue to help in the growth of the aquaculture industry in Kenya.
Promotion of information, networking and communication among fish farmers and other stakeholders.
Information and networking gap among fish farmers must be addressed to improve communication and knowledge of aquaculture development in the Kenya.
Marketing of aquaculture products.
Smallholder fish farmers have limited access to local and regional markets, this reduces their ability to sell their produce. It also limits smallholder incomes and food security in general.
Advocacy for development, production and acquisition of quality commercial fish feeds.
Smallholder fish farmers in Kenya are facing shortage of high quality feeds. Poor quality fish feed combined with high cost of the feed is exacerbating the already critical situation leading to inadequate production quality and quantity fish to meet the current market demand.
Advocacy for Improved production of quality Tilapia, Catfish and Trout Fingerling.
AAK advocates and will continue to do so to continually Improve the production of quality Tilapia, Catfish and Trout Fingerling for better aquaculture development.
Production, distribution and Publicity of publications through various media/channels.
